If you provide a single list or array to plot, matplotlib assumes it is a sequence of y values,

Intro to data structures — pandas 2.2.3 documentationpandas provides plotting your data out of the box, using the power of Matplotlib. You can pick the plot type (scatter, bar, boxplot,…) corresponding to your data.
Getting started — pandas 2.2.3 documentationdata table is called a DataFrame.
Getting started — pandas 2.2.3 documentationWe use math to teach problem solving because it is the most fundamental logical discipline. Not only is it the foundation upon which sciences are built, it is the clearest way to learn and understand how to develop a rigorous logical argument. There are no loopholes, there are no half-truths. The language of mathematics is as precise as it is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ (or ‘proven’ and ‘unproven’). Success and failure are immediate and indisputable; there isn’t room for subjectivity. This is not to say that those who cannot do math cannot solve problems. There are many paths to strong problem-solving…
Why It's So Important to Learn a Problem-Solving Approach to MathematicsTrick A is for Problem A, Trick B for Problem B, and so on. In this vein, school can become a routine of learn tricks for a week, use tricks on a test, forget most tricks quickly.
Why It's So Important to Learn a Problem-Solving Approach to MathematicsOther people thought I’d suddenly gotten smarter or that I studied harder. Maybe I did, but mostly I just got organized.
Stop Making Silly MistakesWork for each question is segregated in its own numbered box (or on its own sheet of paper for harder tests). Your work is easy to find when you want to check your solutions.
Stop Making Silly MistakesIf your work is chicken scratch, you’re doomed to misreading numbers, messing up signs, and so on.
Stop Making Silly MistakesRead problem > do question > check that your solution is exactly what the question asks for > mark your answer > proceed to next question.
Stop Making Silly MistakesThis repeated question reading may seem like it will take a lot of time, but if you make it a habit—so that you even do it on the easy problems—you’ll get to where you do it so fast you won’t even notice it.
Stop Making Silly MistakesPractice mocks and timed exams. Time pressure is real and it's nicer to get used to it.
How to prepare for INMObut since time one has limited time to spend each day, it would be ideal to try to minimise the time spent while maximizing the amount of knowledge you gain.
How to prepare for INMOTry to locate other young people in your country who are interested in mathematics, and work together.
web.archive.org/web/20240626131756/https://people.bath.ac.uk/masgcs/advice.htmlFor inequalities, know the famous ones, and practise using them on real competition problems. The famous inequalities are discussed in my UKMT book, a Mathematical Olympiad Companion (UKMT) and quoting from there: The list of inequalities here is perhaps a little more comprehensive than it needs to be. The basic inequalities are: sums of squares are positive, AM-GM, Rearrangement and Cauchy-Schwarz. The HM-GM-AM-RMS chain probably comes next. Then look at power means, Jensen's inequality and Holder's inequality. Finally, international competitors must keep a grip on Muirhead and Schur's inequa…

How I became a person who wakes up early — LessWrongThe general recommendation is that if you can't fall asleep after 20 minutes of trying you should do something else. Read a book, listen to a podcast, meditate, etc.
How to Sleep Better — LessWrongDon't eat too late. The exact reason for why it hampers with sleep quality seems to be unclear but many people report that it does.
How to Sleep Better — LessWrongDon't change your rhythm drastically. If you have found a working rhythm, e.g. from 11 pm to 7 am you should not change that. This includes weekends and holidays. The more you change the less rested you will be and the more sleep you need overall. As alluded to above your SCN adapts very slowly and too drastic changes will decrease sleep quality.
How to Sleep Better — LessWrongDo not accumulate sleep debt. If your regular amount is 8 hours per night you can't replace that with sleeping 6 hours for five nights and then 13 hours for two nights.
How to Sleep Better — LessWrongThe Suprachiasmatic Nucleus (SCN) is a small subpart of the Hypothalamus that functions as the "master clock".
How to Sleep Better — LessWrongZeroth principle analysis is a never ending process of asking ‘why’, thinking about it until you have a detailed, specific, and actionable answer as to ‘why’, and then asking why again. Other forms of this, such as “5 whys” or “first principle thinking”, typically stop once it feels too hard to dive deeper while getting specific and actionable information.
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To Learnthe most productive assumption is that you can always go further/deeper/lower-level.
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnThe process of understanding my own mind
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnNotice a mental phenomenon that I want to understand “some days I’m irritable and some days I am not.. why?” “i like working on one type of work but hate working on another, why? precisely what is the difference?”
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnSome phenomena are extremely difficult to pin down and put into words, such as “precisely what causes me to get irritable when the microwave beeps? where does that feeling come from? it feels like something similar to frustration, or being interrupted, but what exactly is it?” or “whenever life is peaceful and I can’t think of any problems, I feel a sense of dread like something is about to happen – why?”
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnI practiced paying attention to every signal my brain was sending to my consciousness (i.e. every piece of information, words/images/feelings etc, that was available for me to notice/attend to/feel).
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnI started thinking about my own thoughts and kept it up for a long time.
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnTangent: as you get better at noticing how things effect your mind, you’ll notice something: the things you say will warp how you think about and perceive the world. Rumination is just one version of this. You can use this idea to heavily advantage OR disadvantage yourself, and it’s worth learning how to use.
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnBeing good at computers will help you make your own computer easier to use. but, it’ll also help you fix and improve other peoples’ computers.
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To Learn“If I were in [other person]’s position, listening to me talk, I might misinterpret what I’m saying in x or y or z way, so let me clarify around those points”
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnPractice identifying the cause of phenomena/problems/inefficiencies in your mind (debugging) to strengthen your ability to debug your mind and develop a stronger model for how it works.
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To Learn“I make greedy moves in chess because I don’t visualize the long term consequences properly, and I clearly see the short term benefits. So my brain’s calculus always weighs the short term benefits more strongly”
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnTo become an effective debugger of mental phenomena, practice going extremely low-level in your understanding.
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnThe more fundamental something is to a system, the more the system tends to improve when you improve that thing. So, generally, targeting fundamentals gets you the largest improvements.
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnWhen you’re trying random solutions to solve a bug, and nothing is working, pivot from trying things to understanding the system.
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnAs you practice debugging, you’ll get better at understanding programs, and the more you understand programs the better you’ll be at debugging. Most of debugging is about understanding, anyways, which probably explains why this happens.
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnI’ve met people who are extremely confused about everything in the world, and people who, although they don’t know everything, feel nearly 0 confusion, and they were both surprised that the other type existed
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To Learnproblem solving is mostly about debugging, and debugging is mostly about understanding
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnAnd it tends to spread. You’ll teach someone to think in a way that fixes a problem of theirs, and they’ll go on to teach it to someone else, etc, and then several people will have their lives improved because of you.
How/why to get good at debugging your mind - Learn How To LearnNotice how : takes a number and a list of numbers or a character and a list of characters, whereas ++ takes two lists. Even if you're adding an element to the end of a list with ++, you have to surround it with square brackets so it becomes a list.
Starting Out - Learn You a Haskell for Great Good! When you put together two lists (even if you append a singleton list to a list, for instance: [1,2,3] ++ [4]), internally, Haskell has to walk through the whole list on the left side of ++. That's not a problem when dealing with lists that aren't too big. But putting something at the end of a list that's fifty million entries long is going to take a while. However, putting something at the beginning of a list using the : operator (also called the cons operator) is instantaneous.
Starting Out - Learn You a Haskell for Great Good!that characters (which are, by the way, denoted as a character between single quotes
Starting Out - Learn You a Haskell for Great Good!. So we can call it as an infix function by doing 92 `div` 10 and suddenly it's much clearer.
Starting Out - Learn You a Haskell for Great Good!We usually use ' to either denote a strict version of a function (one that isn't lazy) or a slightly modified version of a function or a variable
Starting Out - Learn You a Haskell for Great Good! It’s also important to note that the Intermediate Value Theorem only says that the function will take on the value of MM somewhere between aa and bb. It doesn’t say just what that value will be. It only says that it exists.
