Almost everyone, at some point, finds that one practice is much more helpful than the others, and this becomes the "main practice." So, generally, it's worth exploring different techniques until you find a "click." Almost everyone can benefit, to some degree, from doing their main practice daily. There's no need to be rigid about this, and it's not right for everybody at all times. But there's no question that daily practice compounds. (Personally, I have stretches of not skipping a day for months, but not years, and nothing bad has happened to me because of occasionally gappy practice.) However: it's important to avoid a mode in which the practice becomes a perfunctory chore, rather than something engaged in actively. This can be avoided by taking an exploratory mode towards a practice, by tweaking it—like changing up the words of a mantra, or changing what you're visualizing, or adopting a different posture.
