If you’re 100% honest with your feedback on people’s business ideas, the short-term reaction is anger. In the long term, you become one of the few people they trust.
High AgencyI think you just have to be very careful about doing things you are fundamentally not going to be proud of, because they will damage you. The first time someone acts this way, I will warn them. By the way, nobody changes. Then I just distance myself from them. I cut them out of my life. I just have this saying inside my head: “The closer you want to get to me, the better your values have to be.” [4]
HOW TO GET LUCKY — Almanack of Naval RavikantThe worst outcome in this world is not having self-esteem. If you don’t love yourself, who will?
HOW TO GET LUCKY — Almanack of Naval Ravikant“Be a maker who makes something interesting people want. Show your craft, practice your craft, and the right people will eventually find you.” [14]
HOW TO GET LUCKY — Almanack of Naval RavikantAnger is a cover of pain. When people cross our boundaries, we should focus on expressing our pain instead of anger.
50 Things I Learned | Cheng-Wei HuWould I still do it if I could never talk about this with anyone? Assess whether our motivation stems from intrinsic or extrinsic factors
50 Things I Learned | Cheng-Wei HuThe most valuable feedback usually hurts a lot.
principles - Nabeel S. Qureshifigure out what you want to do, and plant the “this is happening” flag. People will come along for the ride.
principles - Nabeel S. QureshiStop asking for approval and permission from others.
principles - Nabeel S. QureshiThere are some people who, after you talk to them, you feel more energized and you want to conquer the world or climb a mountain or something. They’re rare but they exist. Go find them and make friends with them.
principles - Nabeel S. QureshiPeople who are smart and ambitious but don't achieve much tend to become bitter.
How to Do Great WorkAt that point, I decided there's no point in not trying to accomplish every stupid dream I've got, even if it's dumb stuff….Chase it all and do it all because we're all going to die screaming, and you might as well enjoy it here."
High AgencyIf you travel across the world for a friend's birthday, the friend’s initial reaction is: “You don’t have to do that” — but it’s the story they tell at your wedding.
High AgencyMy approach towards him at that point (ignore, hoping he’d stop) was the only one that seemed available given my spiritual and psychological resources at the time. But my orientation to the problem became fixed in time at that point of low agency, and it never occurred to me to revisit it as my capacity for action increased.
Maybe you’re not Actually Trying - by Cate HallThe price is consistently doing the small choices that put you on the path to success for years
The Small Steps of Giant LeapsA lack of consistency keeps ordinary people from extraordinary results
The Small Steps of Giant LeapsFor your choices to compound, you need to be consistent. Intensity will only carry you in the short term but if you want compounding results you need consistency. In the absence of immediate rewards, we can keep up the intensity for a while but most of us become intermittent.
The Small Steps of Giant LeapsOne of the most beneficial skills you can learn in life is how to consistently put yourself in a good position. The person who finds themselves in a strong position can take advantage of circumstances while others are forced into a series of poor choices.
The Small Steps of Giant LeapsIt’s always better to be fast, as fast as possible.
2 years in VC - by Kaushik Subramanian - The MooDon’t second guess yourself. If the founder says they will move mountains, they will move mountains. If the founder says they will make cars fly, they will make cars fly. If you fundamentally don’t believe that, then you lack conviction. I wanted to pull the trigger on a deal where I kept second guessing a bunch of ridiculous things the founder said he’d do - and guess what - he did most of them.
2 years in VC - by Kaushik Subramanian - The Mooget the problem reasonably clear and then refuse to look at any answers until you've thought the problem through carefully

Advice to Young People, The Lies I Tell Myself - jxnl.coBy year 200 it means $550B per annum would be deployed into more social good companies, and so on. This is not including any of the companies that would be invested into with the other 50% of AUM.
My 200 Year Plan - Rudland Capital - $27 Trillion "Social Good" FundThe only way to beat these 150 people is to beat the compounding rate over the long term and never lose money, thus never sell, ever. S&P 500 has returned 4.44% asset growth and average 2% dividend since 1871. I believe globally this will be about the same. Also as funds get large (over $50B) it becomes nearly impossible to beat the index. As a side effect of successful VC - the companies we create would most likely join this index too. To put this into perspective, the funds starts with $10B in year 1, the $5B we deploy into world stock index will be about $27.5T by year 200 ($2Q by year 300)…
My 200 Year Plan - Rudland Capital - $27 Trillion "Social Good" FundYou think that being stuck is a permanent state, and this is the pattern you go through every time:
The Illusion of Being StuckA first principle is a foundational proposition or assumption that stands alone. We cannot deduce first principles from any other proposition or assumption.
First Principles: The Building Blocks of True Knowledge - Farnam StreetIf you don’t believe in yourself, it’s hard to let yourself have contrarian ideas about the future. But this is where most value gets created.
How To Be SuccessfulSelf-belief is immensely powerful. The most successful people I know believe in themselves almost to the point of delusion.
How To Be SuccessfulMost people get bogged down in linear opportunities. Be willing to let small opportunities go to focus on potential step changes.
How To Be SuccessfulYou also want to be an exponential curve yourself—you should aim for your life to follow an ever-increasing up-and-to-the-right trajectory. It’s important to move towards a career that has a compounding effect—most careers progress fairly linearly.
How To Be SuccessfulI try to always ask myself when I meet someone new “is this person a force of nature?” It’s a pretty good heuristic for finding people who are likely to accomplish great things.
