The first 3 levels of thinking (made simple) Level 1: Remember This is about memorising things. Re-reading, re-writing, rote-learning, repeating hundreds of flashcards. If you learn like this, you’re going to hate learning (unless you’re a psychopath). This level only helps with regurgitating and becomes increasingly useless as you go through uni and professional life. Confusingly, even though this level is called remember, it's actually a bad way to remember and retain what you learn... But we'll talk about that later. Level 2: Understand This is when we try to really comprehend what we're le…

The biotech firm TeGenero ran into this issue during first-in-human trials in 2006, when their antibody candidate TGN1412 overstimulated trial participants’ immune systems, leading to cytokine storms that left six previously healthy volunteers hospitalised with multiple organ failure, and one patient losing fingers and toes. This happened even though there were no signs of side effects in preclinical experiments, the dose administered was 500 times lower than the safe dose in animals, and there were no obvious deficiencies in the preclinical studies or manufacturing process.
