The stampede is coming. If I’m right, in six months, it’s likely every SaaS product and consumer application will be rushing to complete a ChatGPT integration. In twelve months, users will expect it. In eighteen months, the platform taxes will arrive. In twenty-four months, the graveyard will be full.
The Next Great Distribution Shift - Brian Balfour
This time won't be different. Use ChatGPT's distribution, but don't depend on it. Let their AI enhance your product, but don't let it become your product. Most importantly, assume the platform will turn hostile and plan accordingly.
The Next Great Distribution Shift - Brian Balfour
The AI that knows you've been working on a product launch for three months and can reference your previous discussions is infinitely more valuable than one starting from scratch each time.
The Next Great Distribution Shift - Brian Balfour
My personal belief is that ChatGPT is the next distribution platform.

But static profiles only reveal so much. LinkedIn needed dynamic data—what you read, what you share, what makes you engage. They needed users actively participating, not just existing.

But once that moat has escape velocity? The walls go up. The taxes increase. The rules change. What was once free becomes paid. What was once permitted becomes forbidden.

They start open and generous, practically begging developers to build on their platform.

But I believe we're on the precipice of something bigger. The next great distribution shift is coming, and it's going to reshape how products find users just as dramatically as search engines and app stores did before it.

like anyone who gets better at their job, you'll know you're getting better.
Taste for Makers
As in any job, as you continue to design things, you'll get better at it. Your tastes will change.
Taste for Makers
If taste is just personal preference, then everyone's is already perfect: you like whatever you like, and that's it.
Taste for Makers
What my friend meant was that he wanted students who were not just good technicians, but who could use their technical knowledge to design beautiful things.
Taste for Makers
That was how I realized my father was wrong. I started studying painting. And it was just like other kinds of work I'd done: you could do it well, or badly, and if you tried hard, you could get better at it. And it was obvious that Leonardo and Bellini were much better at it than me. That gap between us was not imaginary. They were so good. And if they could be good, then art could be good, and there was such a thing as good taste after all.
Is There Such a Thing as Good Taste?
there's building an IDE for engineers to work within and adding AI magic to it, there's another route of just a full AI agentic dev product, and then there's just a model that is very good at coding, and focusing on building the best possible coding model.

Companies need to conduct comprehensive audits of their existing workflows to make sure AI innovations are both effective and sensitive to consumer expectations

However, for this integration to be successful, trust must be at the core of its implementation. Identifying the right moments in the commerce journey for AI integration is also crucial.

Poorly run implementations of traditional or generative AI technology in commerce—such as deploying deep learning models trained on inadequate or inappropriate data—lead to bad experiences that alienate both consumers and businesses. To avoid this, it’s crucial for businesses to carefully plan and design intelligent automation initiatives that prioritize the needs and preferences of their customers, whether they are consumers or B2B buyers.

And the question is, are you learning the things that you want?

so the meaning of life in general for me, I think for all humans is that the output of experience is learning
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
The purpose of the business is whatever the output of that business is. That's the meaning
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
And so you are different now than you were 10 years ago because you've learned more things.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
I actually do think it's learning because if we think about what learning is, it's that you're exposed to new conditions that over time change your behavior.

Despite any critics that might be out there, please continue to have the courage to be yourself, because you have no idea how it's making a group of weirdos that feel like they don't fit in feel heard and understood for their variance.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
To be honest with you. The fact that you're telling me that you're different makes my difference, whatever it might be, feel acceptable. Do you know what I'm saying?
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
And so because I have a behaviorist view of the world, which is that everything boils down to behaviors, why do I do These things. I do these things because when I have done them in the past, I have enjoyed the result.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
By demanding that life be meaningful, by demanding that I be happy when I understood that I was demanding these things and pursuing them, that they were outside of me, by saying I need to do this, that I created inherent space that I could never gap or I could never close. And so by trying to forget or eliminate the demand is where it was the first time that I experienced those things.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
And I will do the very best of my ability to try and do the things within my control to ideally make other people's lives better and my own in the process.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
so my solving has been for degrees of freedom and responsibility. So what are the things that I can control?
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
And so I would say that a lot of my entrepreneurial career, even just human journey, has been what are the beliefs that I so, so inherently believe that I don't even see them them, I don't even think about the should
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
And so it's the shoulds that we don't even know that we think and say that are the ones that change us the most, like hardcore
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
He said, why do you think that life needs to be meaningful? And it was just this really interesting question, which is basically that I had an unspoken demand of the universe.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
I actually think we talked about the courage of being yourself. There's also the courage of being happy. And with the courage of being happy, you have to withstand public pressure.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
I love what I do. And I get attacked for liking what I do so much. And I like working a lot. And it's because they have negative associations with the word, and that's their own history of their experience with the word.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
Work and love has been very unified because I love my work so much that I got out of a relationship. And when I started dating Laila, I said, I am not willing to change this
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
It just is this way I work, period. Not I should work more, I should work less, I should work differently, or I should see my mom or I should call my dad more
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
And so I've tried to eradicate should for my life, should for other people. She should do this, they should do that. Not and just lean into is
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
so we create this idea that whatever we have right now is not what it should be.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
I think one of the major plights of humanity, myself included, is the expectation that life should be different than it is.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
And so by saying fuck happiness, I was like, it's unattainable. I'm just going to work, and I'm just going to do the stuff I want to do.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
The goal, clearly, for you, then, is the hard work itself and not a certain place you're trying to get to.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
I work as much as I can until I feel like my rate of output drops precipitously because of fatigue and I sleep.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
For me, it has just been life and I like it that way
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
That is what I strive for. And for me, the love, the happiness and work have all, because of the nature of my life, been one.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
to work hard. That is my goal, and then die on things worth doing
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
I realized that the idea of working hard so that I can insert blank the. So that actually makes it still destination driven.
Transcript of The Man That Makes ... | Happy Scribe
I looked at the days that. That I enjoyed the most, and on those days, I had worked out and I had produced something, and I had done both of those with people I liked.
