Agents help you do work and be more productive, and consumers don’t want to work or care about being productive.
The iPhone’s Last Stand – Stratechery by Ben Thompsonnormal people aren’t looking for agents to buy them tickets to a concert
The iPhone’s Last Stand – Stratechery by Ben Thompsonenterprises are paying for their employees’ time, so of course they are willing to pay for tools that make those employees more productive; consumers, on the other hand, are mostly looking to waste time, which is why attention-harvesting advertising is the only software business model that works at scale for consumer services.
The iPhone’s Last Stand – Stratechery by Ben Thompsonspent too long trying to actually build a business in the consumer space, before finally realizing that the only way to make money with what was ultimately a productivity product was by selling to enterprise.
The iPhone’s Last Stand – Stratechery by Ben Thompsonit can also “see” what you are looking at on your screen, and act on the information.
The iPhone’s Last Stand – Stratechery by Ben Thompsonwhat would have been state of the art would have been asking Siri to enter the lottery on his behalf when the time came. In other words, to act outside of the interaction paradigm that has traditionally defined computing
The iPhone’s Last Stand – Stratechery by Ben ThompsonThe point of an agent is not to use the computer for you; it’s to accomplish a specific task.
The iPhone’s Last Stand – Stratechery by Ben ThompsonImproving your foundation always pays off. And being bold with your experimental list is easier once you call it an experiment.
Backlist confusion | Seth's BlogMake your experiments actual experiments. Devote time and money and focus to your foundation.

Backlist confusion | Seth's Blogregular coffee drinkers scored higher on measures of impulsivity and emotional reactivity than non-coffee drinkers
Scientists discover how coffee interacts with the gut microbiome to affect the human brainI’ve seen entrepreneurs make or raise millions by answering an email, even though they felt they weren’t ready yet. I’ve seen friends hustle for a second date who ended up getting married to that person.
Collect as many lottery tickets as you can - Ada YeoIf a big publisher (or big art dealer or movie executive or a hotshot banker or a big thinker) suggests an appointment, cancel anything you have planned: you may never see such a window open up again.
Collect as many lottery tickets as you can - Ada YeoMany people do not realize that they are getting a lucky break in life when they get it.
Collect as many lottery tickets as you can - Ada Yeothe biggest mistakes of my life were mistakes of omission, not commission
Collect as many lottery tickets as you can - Ada Yeocollect as many lottery tickets as you can, then double down on the ones that start paying off
Collect as many lottery tickets as you can - Ada YeoThe best thing to measure the growth rate of is revenue. The next best, for startups that aren't charging initially, is active users.
Startup = GrowthIf you're really getting a constant number of new customers every month, you're in trouble, because that means your growth rate is decreasing.
Startup = GrowthThe other connection between startups and technology is that startups create new ways of doing things, and new ways of doing things are, in the broader sense of the word, new technology.
Startup = GrowthIt's all about users. The most reliable way to become a billionaire is to start a company that grows fast, and the way to grow fast is to make what users want. Newly started startups have no choice but to delight users, or they'll never even get rolling. But this never stops being the lodestar, and bigger companies take their eye off it at their peril. Stop delighting users, and eventually someone else will.
Billionaires Buildgenuine interest in the problem, and unwillingness to work for someone else
Billionaires BuildWhat keeps them working is the same thing that keeps anyone else working when they could stop if they wanted to: that there's nothing else they'd rather do.
Billionaires BuildThey weren't doing this just for the money, or because startups were cool. The reason they were working so hard on this company was because it was their project. They had discovered an interesting new idea, and they just couldn't let it go.
Billionaires BuildCompetitors are rarely what kills startups. Poor execution does.
Billionaires Buildgo talk to your users and find out exactly what they're thinking
Billionaires BuildThey were able to tell us all about what motivated hosts and guests. They knew from first-hand experience, because they'd been the first hosts. We couldn't ask them a question they didn't know the answer to.
Billionaires BuildIf I had to decide whether to fund startups based on a single question, it would be "How do you know people want this?"
Billionaires BuildAs long as you have some users, there are straightforward ways to get more: build new features they want, seek out more people like them, get them to refer you to their friends
Billionaires BuildThere have to be some people who want what you're building right now, and want it so urgently that they're willing to use it, bugs and all, even though you're a small company they've never heard of.
Billionaires BuildA larval market might also be regional, for example. You build something to serve one location, and then expand to others.
Billionaires Buildwho are building something they themselves want
Billionaires BuildUsually the path to a huge market is by growing a small market.
Billionaires Buildwhether what you're making will ever be something a lot of people want
Billionaires Builda new need, or a new way to satisfy one
Billionaires BuildA startup must sing for its supper, by making things that genuinely delight its customers. Otherwise it will never get off the ground.
Billionaires BuildWhat YC looks for, above all, is founders who understand some group of users and can make what they want.
Billionaires BuildGenerally, DSLs are developed in close coordination with the experts in the field for which the DSL is being designed. In many cases, DSLs are intended to be used not by software people, but instead by non-programmers who are fluent in the domain the DSL addresses.
What are Domain-Specific Languages (DSL) | MPS by JetBrainsExploration has become very cheap. But quality, reliability, and shipping great products hasn't.

An ode to yellow and pink. And why it is a joyful, positive colour… | by Ruxandra Duru | Bootcamp | MediumIncrease the light-dark contrast by, for instance, removing white from the reddish tone.
Two-Color Combinations: A Toolkit | by Ruxandra Duru | The Startup | Mediumthe further apart the two hues are on the color wheel, the higher the stimulation. The closer they are, the lower the stimulation.
Two-Color Combinations: A Toolkit | by Ruxandra Duru | The Startup | MediumConversely, placing our chosen blue-green next to hues that sit closer to it in the wheel creates combinations of hues that feel more related to each other and that together are less stimulating.
Two-Color Combinations: A Toolkit | by Ruxandra Duru | The Startup | MediumThe techniques explained here specifically deal with combinations of colors that are in contact with each other.
Two-Color Combinations: A Toolkit | by Ruxandra Duru | The Startup | MediumI realized that most of my “just right” combinations avoided those two extremes and were found mostly in the central area between the two.
Two-Color Combinations: A Toolkit | by Ruxandra Duru | The Startup | MediumIn spite of my attraction to it, I used it as no more than a secondary tool.
Two-Color Combinations: A Toolkit | by Ruxandra Duru | The Startup | MediumIf you’re not proud of it, don’t serve it. Improving the image on the package shouldn’t be a substitute for making something people want to buy.
Photoshopping the package | Seth's BlogYou’re only doing one thing at a time anyway. Might as well embrace that instead of spending so much time shifting gears.
One thing at a time | Seth's Blogthe same alarms don't go off on the days when I get nothing done, because I'm doing stuff that seems, superficially, like real work. Dealing with email, for example. You do it sitting at a desk. It's not fun. So it must be work.
How to Lose Time and Moneythe situation with time is much the same as with money. The most dangerous way to lose time is not to spend it having fun, but to spend it doing fake work
