Individuals or groups that enable continual unfolding, who are interested not in a particular version of you, but the process of you
Pick an audience that is into the illegible you of today, not your past achievementsIf you have figured out something that made you ecstatic, this is what you should write. And you do not dumb it down, because you were not stupid six months ago, you just knew less. You also write with as much useful detail and beauty as you can muster, because that is what you would have wanted.
A blog post is a very long and complex search query to find fascinating people and make them route interesting stuff to your inboxOften they spend a great deal of thought on how to structure their milieu: whom to interact with, and what work to study and learn from.
First we shape our social graph; then it shapes usAlso, Cursor’s case proves that the so-called data flywheel of Copilot products does not exist. Github’s early start did not result in advantages of product experiences such as efficiency, accuracy. The data you can get, the LLMs can also get, it’s already a part of the model.
Behind Cursor’s Success: Two PMFs | by Gru.ai | MediumOf course, it can be hard to find the right person to help you stare into the abyss. The ideal person is someone who is willing to ask you uncomfortable questions—which means you need a close enough relationship for them to feel comfortable doing that, and they need to be wise enough to figure out where the uncomfortable questions are—and they also need to be a good enough listener that talking to them about a tricky topic is fun rather than aversive.
Staring into the abyss as a core life skillYou are, in my view, doing much good simply by rising in the morning, being as present and kind as possible, keeping sanity alive in the world, so that, someday, when (if) this thing passes, the country may find its way back to normalcy, with your help and the help of those like you.
“Love Letter,” by George Saunders | The New YorkerThey want to increase the number of failures they can learn from. Musicians speed up their playing to figure out which finger positions make them stumble, so they can practice that.
On limitations that hide in your blindspotBut studying the frustrating cases, the failures, the dead ends, gives an abundant stream of insights. Every frustration and failure tells something about the process and its limitations.
On limitations that hide in your blindspotAlso, you are always nonconsciously processing the thing you focus on. So cutting priorities means you work even when it looks like you’re not working.
Think more about what to focus on - by Henrik KarlssonThere was no sacrifice in saying no [to those things]. What focus means is saying no to something that with every bone in your body you think is a phenomenal idea, you wake up thinking about it, but you say no to it because you are focusing on something else.”
Think more about what to focus on - by Henrik Karlssonthey lived narrow lives. They allowed themselves to care about less than others do.
Think more about what to focus on - by Henrik KarlssonPerform experiments. By this I don’t mean do random things. I mean, STATE YOUR ASSUMPTIONS and FIND WAYS TO TEST IF THEY ARE FALSE.
Think more about what to focus on - by Henrik Karlssonrich experience to pull from but have never pulled an answer from that experience before.
Looking for Alice - by Henrik Karlsson - Escaping Flatland" Culture is defined by the worst behavior you tolerate."
the obsession over craft - by David HoangThe most common mistake we make is to do a great job on an unimportant task.
The Technium: 101 Additional AdvicesNormalcy is a fiction. Your job is to discover their weird genius.
The Technium: 101 Additional AdvicesBut rather than manufacturing a personal brand, why not build a reputation? Why not develop our character? Imagine what we could learn from each other if we felt worthy as we are instead of who we project ourselves to be.

In good hands — Steph AngoThey will hold your hand and they’ll tell you, not with their words but with their actions: This is the moment at which I could abandon you. And I won’t.
Give your friends a chance to abandon you - by KasraSerious vulnerability is not just talking about how you were struggling at some point, or that you were overwhelmed with emotion previously but are fine now—it’s sharing these things as they are happening, expressing your anger and anxiety and sadness while you still haven’t resolved them.
Give your friends a chance to abandon you - by KasraInstead of a series of presentations, we offered them new ways of exchanging and sharing.
The ‘anti-conference’, a collaborative way to create innovative teaching methodsExecution is about being efficient, persistent, proactive, aggressive, hiring high-performers, and firing underperformers, which is close to conscientiousness — but conscientiousness is more concerned with attention to detail, being organized, and carrying out what you construe to be duty.

How Converting N.Y.C. Office Buildings to Homes Can Help the Environment - The New York TimesThe top bun represents the big picture: Theory, context, philosophy, related fields. The bottom bun represents the execution: the tools, skills, details, the nuts and the bolts. What we don't talk about is the meat: the working practice of our subjective crafts that we believe are not not one-size-fits-all.

Comparing High and Low Residential Density: Life-Cycle Analysis of Energy Use and Greenhouse Gas EmissionsIn partnership with the project’s structural engineers, the team identified the building elements where this material substitution could be made without structural consequences. By increasing the SCM content from 25% to 50% in the concrete used for columns, walls, and footings, the team achieved impact reductions across all LEED v4 categories except the Renewable Energy Demand category.

Even if you beat me - The Dublin ReviewDid it make me more empathetic and self-aware? Or did it just continue to affirm the idea that if I were smart and competitive enough, I could speak for anyone I wanted?
Even if you beat me - The Dublin ReviewSeeking help from food banks and welfare and community agencies are very public strategies, requiring households to proclaim their needs to total strangers and potentially subject themselves to scrutiny by agency staff and volunteers who must verify that each applicant’s level of deprivation is sufficient to warrant whatever assistance they have to offer.
The Relationship Between Food Banks and Food Insecurity: Insights from Canada | SpringerLinkIt was like, in the era before spellcheck, when you misspelled a word and could tell that something was wrong, but every permutation you came up with was just as wrong.

Using the BEAM Estimator - GreenBuildingAdvisorPerhaps we can gently guide young people away from the notion that the only life worth living is one where they’re a writer or musician or influencer, and instead demonstrate that the security of ordinary jobs can be joined with the fulfillment of creating on the side.
Why So Many Elites Feel Like Losers - by Freddie deBoerOur culture lionizes the arts and habitually degrades ordinary jobs—not just low-paying blue-collar jobs but middle-class white-collar ones as well.
Why So Many Elites Feel Like Losers - by Freddie deBoerMost people are not evil, “less-skilled people” are only really a few hundred hours and a confidence boost away from becoming “highly-skilled people” and pretty much everyone in the entire world shows up to things because it’s what their friends are doing.
World-building IRL - by Joss - box.But if your interactions with someone consistently do not get past small talk, it is likely you aren’t soul-level compatible. Or said differently: you are familiar with each other, but are not equally familiar with yourselves
compatibility and connection - by Isabel - Mind MineOur job is to vibrate loudly on the wavelength that we are on by being open, expressive, alive, and authentic to who we really are.
same wavelength - by Isabel - Mind MineAdmiration tells you what you appreciate in others and what you want to embody more of in yourself. To be on the same wavelength, you need to admire the person. They need to represent parts of you that you want to deepen into.
same wavelength - by Isabel - Mind MineNo matter how long you’ve been a part of our community, every coworking session and event we run requires a fresh RSVP. People get comfortable and complacent — for your own sanity, make them opt in every single time
World-building IRL - by Joss - box.We call this approach “effort-gating” — start with as low of a barrier to entry as possible (“merit” is not considered when approving people to attend events), pay attention to who shows up consistently, and promote from within! The people who lean in the most get the most benefits.
World-building IRL - by Joss - box.Make everything opt-out by default and keep timelines short Don’t hire people for roles, hire them for jobs to be done. Your “events coordinator” will likely feel trapped in their commitment. The 10 people you message to “help organize a one-off event” will make great friends, feel super engaged, and be grateful for the opportunity.
World-building IRL - by Joss - box.If it’s not helping you become who you want to be and it’s not making you jump up and down with excitement, it’s a no. What you spend time on signals to the world what you care about.
Why I do what I do - by Joss - box.It also allows her to shorten the gap between thought and action significantly; she is rarely paralyzed by uncertainty, given that she accepts uncertainty as a universal phenomenon.
Things You Learn Dating Cate Hall - by Sasha ChapinBut as ponds grew larger, my resistance to choose a path resulted in behaviour like touring every single local high school, frantically writing the SAT because I thought I wanted to go to film school in the US, overloading myself with prerequisite courses for every possible university major, and ultimately choosing (arguably) the most broad and flexible engineering program in Canada (full of classmates who seem to be equally torn about what to do with their time).
