What if you were more often baffled by the fact that you’re still alive, if you began to ask of this moment, of every moment: what do you have to teach me?
Real life - by Kasra - Bits of WonderReal life doesn't start tomorrow, or on the weekend. It doesn't start when you graduate, or when you land a job, or when you quit your job. It doesn’t start once you get a handle on your anxiety, or fix your sleep schedule, or finish all the tasks in your to-do list. Real life is made of moments like this. It’s waking up with dread and clutching at your phone for relief. It’s being mildly frustrated at all your friends for the various ways in which they don’t understand you. Real life is wiping the lint from your dryer, it’s scrubbing the same pan clean for the hundredth time, it’s being surpr…
Real life - by Kasra - Bits of WonderBut - hear me out: change is important. This push and pull between two people are merely part of the human experience, and this space often makes space for another set(s).
Can you fill space? - by shaahana - ramblesCompatibility, to me, encompasses not only chemistry or attraction but a moment in time when you’re truly open to something new. By embracing new experiences and people, we open ourselves up to the possibility of feeling these emotions again. Your ability to give and receive love is abundant, and forming a desire to truly experience that again can be much more fulfilling than an attachment to this idea of “the one.”
Someone like you - by shaahana - ramblesWhen you develop an intense connection with someone, nothing else compares. You’ve learned not only that you care about someone but how to care about them - we discover what makes them laugh, how to comfort them when they’re upset, and what brings them balance.
Someone like you - by shaahana - rambleswith my days fully open there is nothing to do BUT think. slowly i have become a lot more introspective than i would like to admit, i spend prolonged periods looking at art and discussing open ended questions with “no point”. i’m cumulating hours biking through dark unpaved paths rather than taking the metro home just so i can have more time with myself in open spaces. it seems i really, truly, deeply understand my intrinsic values
i'm in your care | arielle lokTo keep the faith in my small, precise, efforts, knowing everything adds up in teaspoons. The writing and the heartbreaks, the serendipity and the failures. Such is life. It’s elegant and ugly and hopeful. We don’t get a transcript from heaven telling us what is worth the hunt. The search goes on until you find ideas worth chasing. It’s a gift to be thrown into the game. The hidden beauty lies in figuring out how to play.
living the life you believe in - by Nix 🕊romantic love is the feeling of utmost correctness when we are together.

Reflecting on backpacking Europe for 2 monthsBeing that 2014 was now a decade ago, it makes sense that we are in a period of reflection. This may be the first time Gen Z can recall their past clearly, a testament to the fact that we are well and truly becoming adults. However, this period of reflection, which has been in the making over the last few years, also brings into question whether 2014 was really that special or whether we’re a society entirely fixated on nostalgia.

West African architects choosing mud over concrete | National Geographicas climate change makes a hot region even hotter, a growing coterie of architects, tribal chiefs, and government officials insist that concrete construction is anything but a sign of progress. Mud has a high thermal mass and hence a long lag time, which means that heat only slowly penetrates adobe walls, before dissipating as outside temperatures cool in the evening. By contrast, thin concrete cinder blocks, with their hollow recesses, allow for the swift passage of heat, rapidly warming house interiors.

Getting StartedOver-institutionalizing - It can be useful to present the node as a put-together brand™. However, it’s a balance between this and staying fun, light-hearted, and nimble. Presenting it as a hangout among friends can help ward off people coming to be transactional in an extractive way. Ensuring this vibe is communicated upon first contact with anyone you want to join the session, and at the sessions themselves is ESSENTIAL!! Keep in mind that the types of people we bring in will continue to shape the quality of sessions.

Executive Summary | Making Transit Work: Insight from Western Europe, Canada, and the United States -- Special Report 257 | The National Academies PressWestern Europeans also tend to view their historic cities, as well as the undeveloped land around them, as scarce and fragile national resources that must be protected and conserved. Hence, in contrast with the United States, urban land use is typically planned and regulated at the national and regional levels. Western European land use planners have long encouraged compact and clustered residential and commercial urban development that is accessible by transit. The integration of land use and transportation planning is made possible in Western Europe because national, regional, and local gove…

Love doesn’t last, except that sometimes it does; the two people longing for each other never actually make it happen, except when they do. Romance always decays, except when it doesn’t. Nothing ever happens in this sport until everything happens, until one lucky shot undoes all the better wisdom about it.
Past Lives and Summer Hours - by Helena FitzgeraldWhen love works, when it’s good, when all the fireworks and the big parade bands come in with their explosions and trumpets and drums, it means we get to be stupid on purpose. Like sports, it’s an excuse to have outsize reactions to things that don’t really matter much. It’s a drug trip, a roller coaster ride, a day at the beach. It’s screaming in the stands at a big game, and buying drinks for the whole bar when your team wins.
Past Lives and Summer Hours - by Helena FitzgeraldThe season’s sweat and permission and crisis suggests an easy parallel, in its heat and storms, in its cycles of stasis and urgency, to infatuation, longing, and lust.
Past Lives and Summer Hours - by Helena FitzgeraldI don’t think there’s anything more meaningful than realizing that your experience is the human experience, that what happens in your own head is only a fraction of the whole. That the whole exists.

Why Do So Many Women Who Study Engineering Leave the Field?Throughout college, men and women succeeded equally in the classroom. However, we observed that women started to doubt their problem-solving abilities more than men.

Why Do So Many Women Who Study Engineering Leave the Field?a video segment titled “Death by Bicycle.” Editorial Board Member Dorothy Rabinowitz called Citi Bike a dangerous, ugly abomination, rolled out ruthlessly by the “all-powerful” bike lobby within the “totalitarian” Bloomberg administration.
Flood, sweat, and gears: The tumultuous, triumphant history of Citi BikeIt seems like smart people usually have good filters for noticing when people are creating something to satiate their personal curiosities or needs, and when a creation is a side effect of a fear of personal obsolescence. For me, it’s difficult to completely escape the desire to prove to myself that I can do harder and more interesting things. Even now, there are things that I’m not sure I’m capable of doing, but want to try. But fortunately I’ve found that just doing the thing that fulfills you the most also happens to be the fastest way to discover other people who will celebrate your ideas …

How Russia’s invasion transformed one Ukrainian city“But part of my business I stay in Kharkiv because I believe in this ferroconcrete city, my native city,” he said. “Ferroconcrete” is Kharkiv’s nickname, a reference to the Soviet-era steel and concrete architecture. Now, it has come to symbolize the resilience and strength of the city.
How Russia’s invasion transformed one Ukrainian cityMoreover, in the current Canadian political landscape, those who are empowered to advocate for sustainable modes of travel typically embody privilege and often have a range of transportation choices. This contributes to a worrying trend in which sustainable transportation initiatives become entrenched in privilege and power as opposed to a truly just and equitable transportation future.
