if you want to emulate someone, start by reading what they read.
Mimetic - Brian TimarGamification allows players to immerse themselves in a virtual world, helping them escape from some of the problems in the real world. Some players may be absorbed in a game, enjoy mental relaxation, and feel that time passes faster than usual. Some scholars call this state a “flow state,”

In general, human beings fight for as much autonomy as possible

Digitally-Native Jobs, Self-Employment, and the Antiwork Movementrebundling of work, arguing that the next iconic SaaS companies would stitch together these disparate apps and improve focus and knowledge-sharing
Digitally-Native Jobs, Self-Employment, and the Antiwork MovementBut the thing that’s really hard about dating is that it tends to bring out all your attachment issues, problems you’ve inherited from your parents, primal fear of rejection, etc so it’s really, really hard (basically impossible) to fake being different than you are. Anyone who’s tried to pretend they’re indifferent to someone they actually really, really like knows exactly what I mean. Your true self always slips out.
the agony of eros: dating - by Ava - bookbear expressWe expect more from our partners than ever before—we want them to be our true love, our best friend, our coparenting partner, and the person we combine our finances with.
the agony of eros: dating - by Ava - bookbear expressLinkedin asks the user a yes/no question but instead of allowing the user to answer "no", the button reads "No, show me more"
Deceptive Design - Hall of ShameThe Fogg Behavior Model shows that three elements must converge at the same moment for a behavior to occur: Motivation, Ability, and a Prompt. When a behavior does not occur, at least one of those three elements is missing.
Behavior ModelWho are the people, ideas, and books that magnify your spirit? Find them, hold on to them, and visit them often.
nothing stopsA web allows things to fall through, like a sieve,” she said. “Some things are not meant to be caught.”
nothing stopsLife has meaning because it is finite.
nothing stopsQuicker digesting carbohydrates support tryptophan reaching our brain more efficiently and have been found to promote sleep onset.
Pick Up Limes: Why You're Always Tired, + how food can fix it!The emerging field of how eating behaviours may influence our circadian rhythm is known as crononutrition.
Pick Up Limes: Why You're Always Tired, + how food can fix it!Evolutionary science has a potential explanation for this. Conserving energy was really important throughout our evolution.
People don't want to think more than they have to“It is human nature to want the greatest outcome at the least amount of work”
People don't want to think more than they have toNo matter where you live it is worth trying to improve the small things of your world. Romanticism has always elevated the pleasure of adventure over the pleasure of belonging, to an almost comical degree in recent times—everyone’s favorite hobby just so happens to be “travel”. I think this is something of an oversight. (I am not against travel: I think seeing the world is a great hobby, but it’s one that you should try at home, too.)
Familiarity and Belonging - by Simon SarrisSometimes, all perspectives really aren’t valid, and we should stop pretending like they are.
The Indythe exploitation that tech companies euphemistically call "gig work" relies on minimum wage stagnation and the collapse of social mobility
The Indy"I thought, I gotta have this meditative sound, I used to joke about it being a palate cleanser for the ears."
An introduction to UI soundsHe’d had to make his way alone, and no one—not rock stars, not professional athletes, not software billionaires, and not even geniuses—ever makes it alone
Chapter 5. Socialization – Introduction to Sociology – 2nd Canadian Editionreductionism’s most important consequences. It describes a world without fundamental novelty or essential innovation.
Reductionism vs. emergence: Are you “nothing but” your atoms? - Big Thinklove self-help—I’m saying a number of things: that I believe people can change
bookbear expressOne piece of advice I was given about storytelling is that you often don’t know what the story is really about until you finish it. Similarly, I think most people’s narratives are different from what they think their narratives are. The real story only becomes clear in hindsight.
