Awareness without action is a comfortable place to stand
I am close to finishing my PhD, and I do not know whether that is a bane or a boon. It’s quite lonely here, though, not in the way loneliness is usually described. I want to be clear before I go further: a PhD does not put anyone on a pedestal. Knowledge is not wisdom. I have met brilliant academics who are moral cowards, and I have met people without a day of formal education who carry more genuine understanding of the world than any institution could manufacture.
