One thing I’ve learned in my years of writing about the economics of AI is that it’s pretty much impossible to get people to think about this issue in terms of anything except job loss. The “folk model” of automation is that it throws humans out of work — today you had a job performing some sort of valuable work, and tomorrow you’re on the welfare rolls.
