because of the racism i experienced first-hand as a kid, i grew to develop a lot of internalized racism. i wanted to shed my own identity by rejecting it altogether. fortunately, covid gave me a lot of time to self-reflect and acknowledge a few of my behaviours as reflections of my own internalized racism. that acknowledgement is the largest step to dismantling it. unfortunately, a lot of young south asians haven’t been able to achieve this. it’s why south asians tend to be their own biggest haters. one thing i used to do a lot as a kid would be to speak in english really loudly to make a…
