Poor countries aren't catching up as fast as we'd like, but they're catching up faster than before.

I recently did a series of posts highlighting the successful industrialization and rapid economic growth of countries like India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Poland, and the Dominican Republic.
