Christmas makes us reflect. I think it’s one of the times during the year when people truly, truly slow down. It must be due, in part, to the fact the holiday is perfectly and appropriately sandwiched between gratitude (Thanksgiving) and hope (New Years). As the carol goes: “A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices.” Importantly, Christmas is more than just a happy season, pace more modern Christmas music that exclusively exhorts the excitement and merriment of the holiday. I find the more authentic view vis-à-vis the older music more persuasive: a world seeking delight and joy because of the eternal gift offered by the Lord amidst the chaos and struggle of the world.
