Somehow it is in solitude that I encounter the belonging that I yearn to bask in — perhaps this is the genesis of becoming anchored within oneself.
Lately, I’ve been growing acutely aware of the laughter emerging from the other room. In a literal sense, a faint unsettledness arises whenever the sound of my roommate’s muffled laughter permeates into my room. More figuratively, nearby conversations and Instagram photos of anonymous friend groups provoke in me an ambiguous longing. I attempt to pinpoint this sentiment: a desire be invited into the same room as the laughter, to bask in this perceived ambience of belonging that feels so reachable yet distant.
