TL;DR: To build non-invasive neural interfaces, we need to scale brain data. MEG measures the brain’s magnetic field, which passes through the skull with minimal impedance, and produces the highest quality non-invasive data available. But current MEG systems cost millions and require shielded rooms. Acoustically driven ferromagnetic resonance sensors (ADFMRs) are a chip-scale MEMS technology with enough dynamic range to operate in Earth’s ambient magnetic field without shielding.
