First, for data reasonable within and between block structure , CCA and PLS give comparable results, with equivalent sensitivity and false positive rate. Second, if there are high correlations within either block, this can compromise the reliability of CCA results. This known issue of CCA can be remedied with PCA bef ore cross - block calculation . However, this assumes that the PCA structure is stable for a given sample . Third, statistical significance by null hypothesis testing does not guarantee that the results are reproducible, even with large sample sizes.

DCS allows for the temporary inhibition of a limited cortical area
The default network is causally linked to creative thinking | Molecular Psychiatry
Direct cortical stimulation at the DN node resulted in decreased ability to produce alternate uses, but not in the originality of uses produced. Stimulation in areas that when used as network seed regions produced a network similar to the canonical DN was associated with reduction of creative fluency. Stimulation of areas that did not produce a default-like network (controls) did not alter creative thinking.

We used a novel paradigm of individualized direct cortical stimulation to examine the association between creative thinking and the DN.

Our goal as scientists is not to publish as many articles as we can, but to discover and disseminate truth. Many of us—and this includes the three authors of this article—often lose sight of this goal, yielding to the pressure to do whatever is justifiable to compile a set of studies that we can publish. This is not driven by a willingness to deceive but by the self-serving interpretation of ambiguity, which enables us to convince ourselves that whichever decisions produced the most publishable outcome must have also been the most appropriate.
False-Positive Psychology: Undisclosed Flexibility in Data Collection and Analysis Allows Presenting Anything as Significant - Joseph P. Simmons, Leif D. Nelson, Uri Simonsohn, 2011
To help illustrate the problem, we conducted two experiments designed to demonstrate something false: that certain songs can change listeners’ age.

The culprit is a construct we refer to as researcher degrees of freedom. In the course of collecting and analyzing data, researchers have many decisions to make: Should more data be collected? Should some observations be excluded? Which conditions should be combined and which ones compared? Which control variables should be considered? Should specific measures be combined or transformed or both?

Neuroimaging studies generally have low statistical power (estimated at 8%) due to the high cost of data collection, which results in an inflation of the number of positive results that are false

data that is not already part of a public repository is rarely available, software tools are usually named but versions and operating system are not, it is expected that reasonably skilled analysts could approximately perform the analyses described, and the complete results of the studies are rarely available

And I started asking, ``What are the important problems of your field?'' And after a week or so, ``What important problems are you working on?'' And after some more time I came in one day and said, ``If what you are doing is not important, and if you don't think it is going to lead to something important, why are you at Bell Labs working on it?''

Crucially, this difference was strong in the local, bottom-up signals on the first day of testing, but it waned on the second and third days. In the context of predictive processing, this suggested that newly formed top-down expectations began inhibiting the responses to incoming sensory information as the stimuli became less surprising.
