where costs of protecting the property are high, is to charge a "Georgian tax" based on some imprecise but objective estimate of the value potential of the property, and allocate the fees to the task of securing the property

Secure Property Titles with Owner Authority | Satoshi Nakamoto InstituteThis voting-or-reformation method works well where exit costs are low. Thus in practice users should not "put all their eggs in one basket", but different title clubs should be used for different kinds of property.
Secure Property Titles with Owner Authority | Satoshi Nakamoto InstituteIf the rules are violated by the winning voters, the correct losers can exit the group and reform a new group, inheriting the old titles.
Secure Property Titles with Owner Authority | Satoshi Nakamoto InstituteIn all cases of property rights there is a defined space, whether a namespace or physical space, and the task is to agree on simple attributes of or rights to control subdivisions of that space.

Secure Property Titles with Owner Authority | Satoshi Nakamoto InstituteIn summary, I claim that some of the reasons why so many people who have greatness within their grasp don't succeed are: they don't work on important problems, they don't become emotionally involved, they don't try and change what is difficult to some other situation which is easily done but is still important, and they keep giving themselves alibis why they don't. They keep saying that it is a matter of luck. I've told you how easy it is; furthermore I've told you how to reform. Therefore, go forth and become great scientists!
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam Altmanthe successful scientist changed the viewpoint and what was a defect became an asset.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanI think you need to learn to use yourself. I think you need to know how to convert a situation from one view to another which would increase the chance of success.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanI am not saying you shouldn't make gestures of reform. I am saying that my study of able people is that they don't get themselves committed to that kind of warfare. They play it a little bit and drop it and get on with their work.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanAn enormous number of scientists feel they must assert their ego and do their thing their way. They have got to be able to do this, that, or the other thing, and they pay a steady price.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam Altmangood scientists will fight the system rather than learn to work with the system and take advantage of all the system has to offer. It has a lot, if you learn how to use it. It takes patience, but you can learn how to use the system pretty well, and you can learn how to get around it.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanI think it is very definitely worth the struggle to try and do first-class work because the truth is, the value is in the struggle more than it is in the result. The struggle to make something of yourself seems to be worthwhile in itself. The success and fame are sort of dividends, in my opinion.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanI found in the early days I had believed `this' and yet had spent all week marching in `that' direction. It was kind of foolish. If I really believe the action is over there, why do I march in this direction?
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanIt's just as easy to do a broad, general job as one very special case. And it's much more satisfying and rewarding!
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanNow of course lots of times it doesn't work out, but you don't have to hit many of them to do some great science.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanYou can't always know exactly where to be, but you can keep active in places where something might happen.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanIf you do not work on an important problem, it's unlikely you'll do important work.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanThe steady application of effort with a little bit more work, intelligently applied is what does it. That's the trouble; drive, misapplied, doesn't get you anywhere.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam Altman``Knowledge and productivity are like compound interest.'
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanThey fail to continue to plant the little acorns from which the mighty oak trees grow. They try to get the big thing right off. And that isn't the way things go.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanWhen you are famous it is hard to work on small problems.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanWho but a man of infinite courage could have dared to think those thoughts? That is the characteristic of great scientists; they have courage. They will go forward under incredible circumstances; they think and continue to think.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam AltmanThe prepared mind sooner or later finds something important and does it. So yes, it is luck. The particular thing you do is luck, but that you do something is not.
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam Altmanthe difference between those who do and those who might have done
You and Your Research, by Richard Hamming - Sam Altmanthe act of choice remains central to each of them, and helps to remind us that not only is there a multiverse of possibility out there, but that each of our decisions can create a ripple effect.

Chris Dixon thinks web3 is the future of the internet — is it? - The Vergereach audiences directly, and to truly have a relationship with those audiences that is not mediated by algorithms and advertising
Chris Dixon thinks web3 is the future of the internet — is it? - The VergeIn my mind, if Web3 works right — if we can do it the right way — it is the best of both worlds of Web1 and Web2. The advanced functionality that we have come to like from Web2 service is the slick user interfaces, the ability to read and write as we say, and to both consume and publish. We also have the predictability, reliability, and neutrality of Web1 protocols.
Chris Dixon thinks web3 is the future of the internet — is it? - The VergeThe realization was that we used to build these really important platform services as protocols, but now they are being built as companies.
Chris Dixon thinks web3 is the future of the internet — is it? - The VergePeople won’t be forced to share everything they’ve done online; digital identity simply means that everything you’ve done online (and that you want to share) is verifiable.
