Because the narrative always wins

Humans are meaning makers and story tellers. To live is to have a narrative, to tell a story of Who You Are and How You Came To Be. This naturally involves what all storytelling involves: leaving out anything that seems distracting, irrelevant, or unnecessarily complex for the story you want to tell. If you have rationalist inclinations you are likely to be worse at noticing when you yourself are guilty of leaving out useful/relevant context, and worst of all at noticing when you’re leaving out useful context that is personal, close to the bone, honest about what people find distasteful…
