🫖 Tomorrow, I turn 26. The tradition of my birthday essay means a lot to me, because it was the idea that launched this very Substack. Two years ago, I published a blog post on my shoddily-arranged Square website, that I convinced myself was important to my writing career, and is thankfully lost to the annals of the internet archive now. In it, I reflected on my birthday and a few songs about the age of 23. This gave me the idea that I could cobble together stories from my life, plus some thematically relevant tunes. Today I collect some vignettes from my 25th year, with a song lyric sprinkled in hither and thither. I’m filled with such gratitude for every person who has found their way here. 🫖 ✩ I.
