Early AI pioneers Herbert Simon and Marvin Minsky anticipated AGI before 2000. Even in 2021, AI products were generally niche (Siri, Alexa), protracted (autonomous vehicles, robotics), or domain-specific (recommender systems, Face ID, Google Translate, personalized ads).
