Reboot In 2019, my mother gifted me her broken MacBook Air. The laptop was nine years old and despite its almost perfect physical state, the shine had faded. The operating system could not be updated anymore and the web browser took more than a minute to open up. Websites were displayed broken and glitchy. The problem was the operating system. macOS refused to install the necessary update because the model was too old for the newer versions — the update button was simply greyed out.
