When June came we were flooded. It wasn’t all that rainy, not by Seattle standards, but it didn’t stop for three grey weeks. The river swelled and almost everything we had planted was quietly blotted out, strangled in mud and reeds. Like many from my generation of recession-minted radicals, we had made a difficult choice to try something lonely, new, and slow — though hopefully not far in spirit from the port shutdowns and occupations of our youths.
