last week i was peeling an orange in the kitchen and i didn’t mean for it to become anything. it was just an orange. slightly soft at the bottom, a little too ripe. the kind you’re supposed to eat quickly before it collapses into itself. i stood there in my oversized tshirt, hair tied badly, fka twigs playing in the background and the afternoon light was coming in sideways through the window, turning everything that slow honey color. i remember thinking i should probably be doing something else. something useful. something that could be named and justified. an assignment due the next day.…
