I just returned from the BRAIN Initiative meeting in Washington, D.C., and I would describe the mood as febrile. We have better atlases, tools and models to understand the human brain, as we’ve been able to ride the wave of advances in artificial intelligence. However, we’re also dealing with a series of shocks: AI rapidly advancing in scientific domains, funding oscillating, new organizational structures being proposed.
