The idea that power corrupts is commonplace and obvious -- we see it all around us, and we're reminded of it every time we perceive injustice. However, the idea that power literally causes cerebral degradation is not well known. Folk wisdom tells us that power changes us via some fairly-universal property of human nature, causing us to simply choose the path of selfishness and exploitation when it is offered to us.
