SF needs to stop covering up for men
I spent the better part of my summer in San Francisco this year. From hosting events, planning out elaborate schemes that would never come to fruition, I found myself also just meeting and making new friends. But as I intertwined myself in these social circles, I was appalled by what they all hid underneath. The situation, in my eyes The first man we encountered was someone who had been in the start-up space in Seattle. However, he had grown a reputation at multiple schools for allegedly pressuring and coercing girls who just didn’t know better with lies, including my own friends. In text messages, he would refer to women like “property on his roster”, and at parties or hackathons, you could find him cornering intoxicated girls who had clearly expressed their disinterest. When we were requested to not have him attend events we organized, we felt it was a no brainer. Some of the organizers we worked with tried to apologize to him, and let him down gently by implying we were out of room
