the idea of identity is a funny one. perhaps if you’re a doctor, it is easier? doctors, weight in, please. being a doctor feels like it could be a big part of someone’s identity. i’d imagine more often than not, that that’s the hat (coat?) you’d wear when you step out into the world. being a food writer is a little different. to begin with, no-one’s quite sure what being a food writer entails. does this mean you never have to pay for another restaurant meal? does this mean you are a blogger? does this mean you always know the newest and best places to eat in the city? some of these questions get thrown at me quite often. i’ll be at a wedding, standing in uncomfortable heels, balancing a plate of biryani in one hand, trying to eat in a dignified manner, while someone wants to know my thoughts on their favourite restaurant. over the loud music i will find myself trying to explain that yes, i’m a food writer, but i mostly eat at the same 3 restaurants, and no, i don’t have an opinion on w
