Novelty Craft Novelty February 2026 I first wrote about the relationship between frequency and novelty in 2023 for Invisible Details of Interaction Design . My working hypothesis was that the more commonly an user interface action is performed, the less rewarding or satisfying any novel visual or motion treatment on it becomes. In psychology, there's this phenomenon called semantic satiation in which repetition of a word or phrase causes it to temporarily lose meaning. I believe the same phenomenon occurs when exposed to extravagant animations or other visual flourishes in common use cases. No
