One unfortunate side effect of “The Singularity” is that the name can conjure up a very static and shallow sense of the option space. If there is A Moment when Transformative AI Arrives, then surely there’s A Solution: a breakthrough alignment technique, or a landmark legislative framework that sets the rules of the road, or a treaty with China to coordinate on risks. Needless to say, I suspect that there will be important legislative frameworks and perhaps even treaties, and I certainly hope for breakthrough alignment techniques.
