Conversational Framework for Intentional Relating – RDBSMA – Sitting Quietly, Doing Nothing
I first learned about RBDSM at an ISTA Workshop (International School of Temple Arts), which I participated in many years ago. It opened my mind to the importance of intentional conversations before intimate engagements. It has its roots in the BDSM (Bondage, Discipline, Sadism, Masochism – a range of consensual relational/sexual dynamics and behaviors that may involve power, control, sensation play, restraints, and punishment). BDSM developed a framework to prepare people to negotiate before ‘scenes.’ In my experience, this community has done a superb service in creating this intentional framework that has evolved and is now used in different iterations under multiple acronyms. I’ve settled on RDBSMA after using this conversation for years, desiring a model that covers the bases and isn’t itself an overwhelming academic marathon that destroys the initial impulse to connect.
