Was watching Social Network the other day and thinking about how crazy it must have been to be a direct part of it's early growth. I didn't know them personally, but I was around. Saverin hit on my fiancee many a Saturday night. Big mistake on her part; she's had to settle for me. This is mentioned in the movie, but Harvard took all frosh pictures during move-in week; they lured you with ice cream. These pictures went onto our ID cards, and were also hosted for the intranet along with our rooms, emails and landlines. They also published these for an absurd fee as the "Freshmen Face Book." A year later when you moved into an upperclass house (like "Kirkland" from the movie), each house took possession of the pics and data for their own directory. These are the databases he plundered for "facemash." Later, in early 2004, I heard from friends in the CS department about "THE Facebook" and started an account. It was very bare-bones.
