One of my favorite images I’ve recently found is this aerial photo of Gwangyang Steel Works factory in South Korea (hat tip to Matt Beard): Part of the reason this image is so amazing to me is how easy it is to mistake it for a computer chip. Among other things it’s a reminder to me that outside of my little neighborhood in Washington DC, the world is unimaginably large and strange, and humanity has a shocking, overwhelming ability to shape things at the macroscopic and microscopic level to optimize the flow of material or information using these incredibly abstract methods of thought…
