It was horrifyingly scary how much I could see the past version of myself in Andrew; sometimes it even felt like the director would owe reparations for inserting me as a character without my permission. The signs of abuse and trauma seem to be universal(a peculiar and utterly horrifying observation). I’ve grappled with the belief “success requires self-abuse” throughout my life. Although subconsciously I disagreed with the idea, I eventually succumbed to it as the whole world pushed it as a necessary evil, leading a miserable life overwhelmed with internal conflicts chipping away at my sanity every second. Whiplash opened some old wounds and made me revisit the question again; this time as a changed person. I can proudly say not once during the movie did I subconsciously question myself or play into Fletcher’s little game
