Tom and I met during my freshman year in college and the first year after he dropped out. Over the past 23 years, we grew up together. Separately, we are a Marxist academic, who was trained to study the world but not get involved, and a software startup founder, who built a tool enjoyed by millions and who benefited from the hegemonic structures of capitalism. For two decades, we have learned from each other, sharpening our mutual worldview of justice, opportunity, and power, and honing our distinct abilities to solve problems, to contribute to collective solutions, and to resource those people ready to take action. After finishing my PhD, I dove into the world of NGOs and got messy with my own projects and nonprofits. Tom has discovered that plenty of ideas need funding to exist, even without a road to revenue, and he rediscovers his love of building in each new project he takes on. We both feel the urgency to redistribute our wealth and the responsibility to steward it well. We merge
