The internet democratized the publishing of content. It’s never been easier to craft a message and put it in front of the eyes of hundreds, sometimes millions of people. This content piles up by the billions every day, creating a behemoth task: how might we process information of this scale? Somehow, we did the impossible. Beefy catalogues of our every interest and desire enabled this endless stream of content to instantly associate with the right person at the right time. Digital empires emerged upheld these computer programs with the ability to understand ourselves better than we do. And they really do. A quick peek at my phone melts in 45 minutes swiping between rapidly generating cards of personalized content. Sure, a lot of it isn’t very riveting stuff. But every few swipes drops a sweet reward – an eerily relevant meme, a gem of career advice, or a smiling picture of a dear friend. This lottery machine of emotions has a hold on me. Like a gambling addict, I struggle not to play
