Transcend: The New Science of Self-Actualization ( Amazon ) by Scott Barry Kaufman is a great gateway to Abraham Maslow. This book is a nice place to start if you’re new to Maslow (especially his late-life writings) and also want to understand some of the modern research that’s been conducted over the last 50 years since Maslow passed away. I especially enjoyed Kaufman’s proposal to update the hierarchy of needs from a pyramid to a sailboat.
