Project: Unit 5 - CYB101 | Intro to Cybersecurity | CodePath Courses
This unit is all about the dark side of software... malware. Last unit, we learned some ways malware can infect a system. Now we'll explore different kinds of malware and the havoc they can cause. We'll practice with some modern tools for detecting and protecting against malware, and take a look "under the hood" at how malware is actually created. To proceed with this unit, please ensure you have access to a cyb101 Ubuntu VM as detailed in the 🔗 VM Access Guide. Since the invention of the computer, there have been viruses. And since the invention of viruses, there has been the need for antivirus software: your trusty friend who protects your computer. But how does antivirus software actually detect virus files? In this lab, we will download (safe!) EICAR Anti-Virus test files and explore whether they can be detected by local antivirus scanning software. Next, we’ll upload these files to the virus-detecting web service VirusTotal and inspect their signatures. By the end of this la
