They did cause unbelievable damage, acting extremely unethically and unilaterally and recklessly in destructive ways. But they did have this world-scale ambition, and urgency, and proclivity to actually make things happen in the world, that I think central EA orgs and the broader EA community sorely lack in light of the problems we’re hoping to solve.
