i will try to only put my most salient thoughts here so that real discussion can come from multiple perspectives in the comments. in my opinion, gender is bad in a similar way to how religion is bad. it is a framework to understand the world that doesn’t seem to rely on any facts about reality. instead its value and meaning come from how it makes people feel. the feelings are real, but the underlying construct is…a social construct. religion has become a lot less problematic (imo) everywhere that people have stopped enforcing it on others. i have no issue with people practicing a religion for personal reasons, freely chosen, and sharing that with a like-minded community. i can see that it motivates many of them to be their best selves, and that’s great. but only if they recognize that their faith is a personal choice that doesn’t reflect on other people or reality itself. gender seems to be about the same in this regard. the main difference is that for the most part people are still ex
