Silicon Valley CEOs are all over national media, promising that their new generative AI products will transform work. Some even say it will put workers out of our jobs. Meanwhile, at many workplaces, management has been implementing new generative AI policies and experiments, using it as an excuse to lay off workers and implement speed-up, trying to force fewer workers to do more work. The prospect of significant efficiency gains from introducing AI, if they happen at all, remains very far off. But the assault on our jobs and working conditions is happening today.
