Emily M. Bender and Alex Hanna are the authors of a new book that The Guardian calls “refreshingly sarcastic” and Business Insider calls a “funny and irreverent deconstruction of AI.” They are also occasional contributors to Tech Policy Press. I spoke to them about the new book, The AI Con: How to Fight Big Tech’s Hype and Create the Future We Want, just out from Harper Collins. What follows is a lightly edited transcript of the discussion. Emily M. Bender: I'm Emily M. Bender. I'm a professor of linguistics at the University of Washington and also adjunct faculty in our school of computer science and engineering and our information school. Alex Hanna: I'm Alex Hanna, director of research for the Distributed AI Research Institute. Justin Hendrix: And you both have to introduce your podcast. You have to say a word about that.
