When I was a child, I cried often. I loved to cry. For me, it felt so good to cry, to feel my emotions and release them, to be free of them. Then, when I was a teenager, I suddenly couldn’t cry. I’m not sure when it started, or how, or why, but suddenly, mysteriously, I couldn’t cry. I remember when my grandfather passed away, I was astonished and shocked that I couldn’t cry. I loved my grandfather so much, and I was deeply sad that he’d passed, but I couldn’t cry at all. Why couldn’t I cry, even at something so sad? Was I really grieving if I couldn’t cry? Was there something wrong with me? Was I broken? It was like that for about ten years. I couldn’t cry even if I wanted to, and I did want to. It wasn’t like I suddenly thought crying was stupid, or effeminate, or something like that. I just seemed to be physically incapable of crying. Then, in 2015, something changed.
