The statistical analysis techniques discussed in the last section all result in a statistical parametric map (SPM), where each pixel in the image is assigned a value based on the likelihood that the null hypothesis is false. However for the localisation and comparison of brain function, what is required is an image which only highlights those pixels which can confidently be labelled as active.
