The voices above are not unfamiliar. They echo a growing sentiment in which womanhood is repackaged through a lens of ‘empowerment’, but rests upon the same scaffolding of benevolent sexism. Women are groomed to perfect the art of dependence, to pursue provision rather than purpose. These ideologies do not encourage women to seek knowledge, independence, contribution, or resolve, but to seek being chosen. They breed nihilism–one which postures resignation and surrender as strategy–casting all men as inherently faithless, women as inherently commodified. And their solution? Objectify in return. If women are reduced to their bodies, then let women reduce men to their wallets. Thus emerges a duality in which each party holds contempt for the other, breeding a dynamic of transaction, suspicion, and hostility. This is not liberation.
