Sessions like “founder’s therapy” makes me think that [X] selects for a very particular group of founder-like people who have specific problems and worldviews and perspectives. But I don’t align, as someone who truly loves software and works to explore in that direction, not thinking about money at all. And that’s who I am. But no one here can relate to it.
I Turned 21This 'garden city' has been broken down into superblocks. Each superblock contains schools, parks and a number of subsidiary groups of houses built around parking lots. The organization is a tree.
A City is Not a TreeWhen people are in burnout, the connections between the amygdala and the medial prefrontal cortex begin to weaken. In fact, overtime, they begin to actually begin to break down at the cellular level. Such that those parts of the brain aren’t talking to each other very well, and what that creates is this terrible cycle where the over activation of the amygdala impairs your ability of the medial prefrontal cortex to help you calm down, which then triggers further stimulation of the amygdala.
Episode 142: Burnout - ZenFounderCSS is a very implicit language; it relies heavily on mechanisms buried deep in the CSS specification. When those mechanisms work in ways we don't expect, we're left in the dark, not sure what the heck is going on. We don't know what we don't know.
The Importance of Learning CSSOne thing I wish I’d had more of in college is something like a sense of taste: not aesthetic taste, but more “taste for what’s awesome” or “taste in good projects.” (My role model for good project-taste was my friend Adrian, who coauthored articles in Nature, Science and Cell before graduating.)
