There ought to be a law against further escalation of AGI capabilities, trying to halt it short of the point where it births superintelligence. A line drawn sharply and conservatively, because we don't know how much further we can dance across this minefield before something explodes.
Only Law Can Prevent Extinction — LessWrongreal-time trials allow the FDA to view key insights in real time, this hiatus could be eliminated or reduced to a minimum, enabling “continuous” trials.

FDA Announces Major Steps to Implement Real-Time Clinical Trials | FDAthere is generally a hiatus in the development program after one phase ends and the next begins
FDA Announces Major Steps to Implement Real-Time Clinical Trials | FDAmost clinical development occurs in discrete phases
FDA Announces Major Steps to Implement Real-Time Clinical Trials | FDAWith improvements in AI and data science, sponsors and trial sites have the opportunity to conduct real-time trials in a way that enhances safety monitoring and radically increases efficiency.

A Brief History of Bioinformatics Softwarein 1987, Da-Fei Feng and Russell F. Doolittle published the first truly practical approach to MSA. They used a “progressive sequence alignment” that initially performed a Needleman-Wunsch alignment for all sequence pairs, then extracted similarity scores for each alignment and built a phylogenetic tree based on the comparison of those scores.
A Brief History of Bioinformatics SoftwareDayhoff’s program was published in 1962. Named COMPROTEIN, it freed scientists from the drudgery of protein alignment. When tested against ribonuclease, a sequence that had taken scientists months to solve manually, the program correctly arrived at the sequence in a matter of minutes.
