carbon intensity: how many grams of carbon dioxide emissions are produced for each kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed.
We did the math on AI’s energy footprint. Here’s the story you haven’t heard. | MIT Technology ReviewSo model size is a huge predictor of energy demand.

The Annotated TransformerChatbots also refute the iron laws of Nikita Bier, Twitter’s premier product troll and dark pattern designer. “Needing a user to type with a keyboard is asking for failure,” he declared. Instead, always autofill, use checkboxes, or multiple choice; if you have a user fill in a text box, expect conversion to crash. Generations of teachers have known the same thing: nothing intimidates like a blank page.
the post-literate society - by Jasmine Sun - @jasmineThese instances of resistance suggest that gendered physicalities are not natural, nor are they easily and straightforwardly ac- quired
Becoming a Gendered Body: Practices of Preschools on JSTORThis gender difference leaves boys a larger range of possibilities of what they might choose to do with their bodies once they have stopped a behavior, whereas girls were directed toward a defined set of op- tions

Becoming a Gendered Body: Practices of Preschools on JSTORocial life depends upon the successful presenting, monitoring and interpreting of bodies"
Becoming a Gendered Body: Practices of Preschools on JSTORfer I identify five sets of practices that create these dif- ferences: dressing up, permitting relaxed behaviors or requiring formal be- haviors, controlling voices, verbal and physical instructions regarding children's bodies by teachers, and physical interactions among children.
Becoming a Gendered Body: Practices of Preschools on JSTORSometimes it feels like I can’t think in here, because people are constantly asking me to externalize my thoughts all the time. [2] I’m not ready to externalize everything I think about. Sometimes it takes years for me to articulate what I’m trying to say.
Nadia Asparouhova | Being basic as a virtueThis is because, at higher levels of the hierarchy, the problem is surplus freedom: what do you do when there is nothing specific you have to do? Where there are many sufficient paths forward, but no necessary ones?
A Dent in the UniverseTechnology forgets the old
Rekindling Is RefiningWhat if we worshipped the present like we dream of the future and yearn for the past?
want what you have - by Isabel - Mind MineThe total effect of the pace layers is that they provide a many-leveled corrective, stabilizing feedback throughout the system. It is precisely in the apparent contradictions between the pace layers that civilization finds its surest health.
Pace Layering: How Complex Systems Learn and Keep Learning · Journal of Design and ScienceThe division of powers among the layers of civilization lets us relax about a few of our worries.
Pace Layering: How Complex Systems Learn and Keep Learning · Journal of Design and ScienceFast learns, slow remembers. Fast proposes, slow disposes. Fast is discontinuous, slow is continuous. Fast and small instructs slow and big by accrued innovation and by occasional revolution. Slow and big controls small and fast by constraint and constancy. Fast gets all our attention, slow has all the power.
