Individuals or groups that enable continual unfolding, who are interested not in a particular version of you, but the process of you.
Pick an audience that is into the illegible you of today, not your past achievementsthe more idiosyncratic and “wrong” I was, the deeper Johanna’s curiosity seemed to become. It was like the inverse of the audiences I had submitted myself to.
Pick an audience that is into the illegible you of today, not your past achievementsIf you have figured out something that made you ecstatic, this is what you should write. And you do not dumb it down, because you were not stupid six months ago, you just knew less.
A blog post is a very long and complex search query to find fascinating people and make them route interesting stuff to your inboxOn the internet, Wonderland is recursive, with rabbit holes opening up to yet more rabbit holes; you never stop falling. And the further you fall, the less likely it is that anyone you’ve ever met is falling where you are.
A blog post is a very long and complex search query to find fascinating people and make them route interesting stuff to your inboxHaving idiosyncratic interests that grow in complexity means that if you pursue them too far you will end up obsessed with things that no one else around you cares about.
A blog post is a very long and complex search query to find fascinating people and make them route interesting stuff to your inboxBy going after the peak from your current vantage point, you can travel up toward the top by looking at what your “peak” is looking at, which is likely further up the hill. Behind Knausgaard is Proust; behind Proust is Chateaubriand and Baudelaire; behind Baudelaire is Gautier...
Scraping training data for your mind - by Henrik KarlssonGrit is the node’s eye’s view. You are struggling against the graph. Agency, on the other hand, is the view from the graph. You are the graph. By changing it, you are changing yourself.
First we shape our social graph; then it shapes usKnowing that there would be a time for focus later made me more willing to try anything and fail
Think more about what to focus on - by Henrik KarlssonSince I didn’t experience as much of such social opportunities
ambrosia - by kel - the (un)comfy cornerThe nuance to this is when I take geolocation into account, as well as overlapping communities

ambrosia - by kel - the (un)comfy cornerIn conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work…all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art.
Sol LeWitt | Minimalist, Conceptual, Wall Drawing | BritannicaCuriosity leaves the door open to possibility. Paranoia shuts it. Paranoia sees only what it wishes to see. Curiosity is the desire to see more and more and more. It’s the desire to understand.
seeing - by Elaine - manners & mysteryI want to take you seriously. This is worth additional scrutiny. This is a collective telling.
A Body That’s All SurfaceTo engage in criticism is to think deeply about someone else’s work in relation to one’s own sensibilities, and then to contextualize it, historicize it, and sometimes to say it’s good or bad.
A Body That’s All SurfaceWhy should we entertain the conventions built up around art that require it to be fundamentally exceptional, credentialed, and toothless? What would it take to speak the truth through art without that element of plausible deniability engendered by self-othering, self-objectifying practices?
A Body That’s All SurfaceIt bothers me that there is so little usable infrastructure beneath artists and so much baroque architecture built on top of us.
A Body That’s All SurfaceIdealism can be practical because the world we want must be drawn upon the world we live in, and also because it necessitates a collaboration — I imagine something different and you imagine something back.
A Body That’s All SurfaceThe world is beautiful separate of whether I feel ecstatic. And the world contains suffering separate of whatever hardships I’m going through.
How to write and what to write aboutthe real keys to befriending them are things that are the opposite of what gets views: patience and routine.
How to befriend a crow | MIT Technology Review“They do have preferences in food,” Steinke says. “If you put out a pile of different foods, like a little buffet for the crows, they’re all going to kind of home in on something.”
How to befriend a crow | MIT Technology Review“Their social system is the most like Western human civilization of any animal that I know of,” McGowan says. American crows “have a family and a space that they defend, but they also have a neighborhood that they pay attention to.” And crows will interact with larger groups of crows that they don’t know as well, sort of the way how humans will engage with their communities beyond their closest relationships.
How to befriend a crow | MIT Technology Reviewtwice daily (usually peanuts, but walnuts and cashews are valued treats). Once there’s no food left, they’ll look for her as she walks around her neighborhood. When one crow finds her, it will call to the others, and they’ll surround her and make a bunch of noise.
How to befriend a crow | MIT Technology ReviewLow-fidelity builds invoke high-fidelity questions.
Proof of Concept | David Hoang | SubstackI’m trying to take input from the world around me and give something back. What do I want to give back? A considered response.
How to write and what to write aboutLife is a two-part excavation: of the undiscovered outer world, and the unexamined within.
How to write and what to write aboutThe secret to creative success is disequilibrium, which is to say noticing things in the world that confound you. When we pay attention, we see things that disturb our expectations of how life should be. Our surprise revises us.
How to write and what to write aboutyour best bet is probably to try living in several places when you're young. You can never tell what message a city sends till you live there, or even whether it still sends one.
Cities and AmbitionA city speaks to you mostly by accident — in things you see through windows, in conversations you overhear. It's not something you have to seek out, but something you can't turn off.
Cities and AmbitionMaybe one day the most important community you belong to will be a virtual one, and it won't matter where you live physically. But I wouldn't bet on it. The physical world is very high bandwidth, and some of the ways cities send you messages are quite subtle.
Cities and AmbitionIf even someone with the same natural ability as Leonardo couldn't beat the force of environment, do you suppose you can? I don't. I'm fairly stubborn, but I wouldn't try to fight this force. I'd rather use it. So I've thought a lot about where to live.
Cities and AmbitionSuffering, like energy, mass, and swag, is conserved.

look what the cat brought in - by Anson YuEverything that happens was achieved in steps. Subsequently, you can change, influence, and revert any step. The world is something that has been carved by the hands of people no different than you.
