Score or bit score is a value calculated from the number of gaps and substitutions associated with each aligned sequence. The higher the score, the more significant the alignment. Each score links to the corresponding pairwise alignment between query sequence and hit sequence (also referred to as subject sequence).
BLAST Tutorial | Texas A&M Institute for Genomic MedicineFor example, red hits are most similar, with alignment scores greater than or equal to 200, while black hits are least similar, with alignment scores lower than 40.
BLAST Tutorial | Texas A&M Institute for Genomic MedicineSimilarity is the degree of resemblance between two sequences when they are compared, and indicates that the amino acids or nucleotides at a particular position have some properties in common (for instance, charge or hydrophobicity), but are not identical.
The Beginners Guide to DNA Sequence AlignmentIdentity is the degree of correlation between 2 un-gapped sequences, and indicates that the amino acids or nucleotides at a particular position are an exact match.
The Beginners Guide to DNA Sequence AlignmentSalt-tolerant bacteria have good abilities to grow in a wide range of salinity levels (30%) and resist the effects of salinity engaging a variety of methods, including the buildup of suitable soluble compounds for osmoregulation, the activation of Na+/H+ antiporters and the synthesis of extracellular proteases
